Village Cannibals grows every time any Human dies — not just yours — which makes it a passive threat in the Human-dense board states Commander regularly produces. Three mana for a 2/2 is a below-rate body, but in the right shell it closes games without ever attacking a resource.

Commander is where Village Cannibals does its best work: multiplayer tables run enough Humans that the counter triggers come consistently, and a 2/2 that becomes a 6/6 by midgame without spending a card is real value. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant — the formats move too fast and the body too small for a three-mana do-nothing-on-entry creature. Modern has pushed Human payoffs far beyond what Village Cannibals offers, so it sees no competitive play there either. Stick to Commander, specifically Human tribal or death-trigger shells.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Village Cannibals is pure bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy. Bulk status is stable; there's no spike catalyst on the horizon for a narrow tribal card with a thin reprint history.
