Vermin Gorger enters with a body and immediately drains life equal to the number of Rats you control — a free payoff stapled to a creature that also happens to be a Rat itself. The cost is that it only fires once and requires a board already in motion, so it rewards density, not singleton inclusion.
Format Analysis

In Commander, Vermin Gorger slots cleanly into dedicated Rat tribal builds where a drain trigger on entry can close out a table that's been chipped down — hitting three opponents at once multiplies its effect well beyond what the mana cost implies. In Pauper, it's a legitimate finisher in Rat colony shells where the board fills fast and a single Vermin Gorger can represent lethal damage on an empty stack. Legacy and Vintage have the raw redundancy to assemble a critical Rat mass, but those formats don't want a three-mana do-nothing-without-setup creature when faster options exist. Outside tribal Rat contexts across any format, Vermin Gorger is a blank.

$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Vermin Gorger is deep bulk — pick it up as a throw-in whenever you're completing a Rat tribal order. There's no realistic pressure that moves this card off the floor, so don't expect the price to change in either direction.
