Verdeloth the Ancient card art
Verdeloth the Ancient lands and immediately floods the board — kicker lets you dump excess mana into a wave of Saproling and Treefolk tokens, and every other Saproling or Treefolk you control gets +1/+1 on the spot. The cost is seven mana before kicker, which means it's a late-game play in most shells, but Fangorn, Tree Shepherd cuts that sting by generating the mana to pay for it.

01
Fangorn, Tree Shepherd

Fangorn, Tree Shepherd

72.2% of decks · synergy 0.69

Fangorn, Tree Shepherd turns every Treefolk you control into a mana source, which directly funds the kicker on Verdeloth the Ancient — the more Treefolk already in play, the bigger the token flood when Verdeloth resolves.

02
Shroofus Sproutsire

Shroofus Sproutsire

46.0% of decks · synergy 0.43

Shroofus Sproutsire rewards you for going wide with fungus and Saproling tokens, and Verdeloth the Ancient is one of the cleanest ways to produce a dozen of them in a single trigger — the anthem effect on existing tokens stacks immediately.

03
Slimefoot, the Stowaway

Slimefoot, the Stowaway

41.8% of decks · synergy 0.41

Slimefoot, the Stowaway drains opponents whenever a Saproling dies, so Verdeloth the Ancient's kicker-powered token flood translates directly into a kill condition the moment anything sweeps the board.

04
Doran, the Siege Tower

Doran, the Siege Tower

27.3% of decks · synergy 0.26

Doran, the Siege Tower cares about toughness, and Verdeloth the Ancient's +1/+1 anthem applies to a creature type that already skews high on toughness — the Treefolk synergy makes Verdeloth a natural include even without leaning into Saprolings.

Commander is where Verdeloth the Ancient actually gets to do its job — seven mana is a real ask, but in a 40-life format with ramp staples and dedicated Saproling or Treefolk synergies, landing it with full kicker is a legitimate finisher. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant; seven-mana do-nothing-until-it-resolves creatures don't survive those formats' interaction density. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth noting: if your planeswalker generates tokens or mana, Verdeloth can close games there too, though the 20-life total shortens the window. Standard, Pioneer, and Pauper are off the table entirely.

Price Context

Current price

$0.82 bulk tier

At $0.82, Verdeloth the Ancient sits firmly in bulk territory — pick it up without hesitation if a Treefolk or Saproling deck calls for it. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications tend to stay in this range, so don't expect movement unless a future set makes Treefolk or Saprolings a tournament-relevant tribe.
