Vengeful Firebrand enters as a 5/1 trampling haste threat the turn a creature dies — premium stats for three mana when the trigger fires. The cost is real: it's a 1/1 without a dead creature to fuel it, which makes it a liability in opening hands before combat starts.

In Commander, Vengeful Firebrand fits cleanly into sacrifice and aggro shells — three mana for a 5/1 trample haste is legitimately threatening in a format where combat damage actually closes games. Competitive Legacy and Vintage have no use for it; those formats demand unconditional threats at this cost, and a conditional 1/1 doesn't clear the bar. Modern is technically legal but similarly uninterested — aggressive red decks there have better three-drops with no strings attached. Vengeful Firebrand is a Commander card, full stop, and even there it earns its slot only in decks that generate consistent creature deaths.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Vengeful Firebrand is pure bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a common box. Demand is narrow enough that it won't climb without a sudden spike in sacrifice-commander popularity, so buy it when you need it and don't expect the price to move.
