Vendetta kills any nonblack creature outright for one mana, no questions asked — the cost is life equal to that creature's toughness, which in Commander can sting badly against a Cultivator Colossus but barely matters against a mana dork. Rowan, Scion of War turns that life loss into a discount engine, which flips the drawback into a feature.

Rowan, Scion of War
Rowan, Scion of War reduces spell costs based on life lost this turn, so the life Vendetta drains feeds directly into casting something massive for free — the bigger the creature you kill, the deeper the discount.

In Commander, Vendetta is a one-mana unconditional removal spell in a format where cheap interaction is scarce, and the life payment is almost always acceptable across a 40-life game. The nonblack restriction is the real limitation — it blanks against mono-black commanders and whiffs on Shadowborn Apostle tribal — but it hits the vast majority of threats you'll face across a table. In Pauper, it competes directly with Doom Blade and Ultimate Price; the life cost makes it the third-best option in most builds, but it earns a slot when you need redundancy. Legacy and Vintage don't want it when Fatal Push and Swords to Plowshares exist, so Vendetta's ceiling is essentially Pauper and Commander.

Price Context
Current price
$0.18 bulk tier
At $0.18, Vendetta is bulk in every sense — you're not paying a premium for the effect, and there's no reason to expect the price to move given how many printings exist. Pick it up without thinking twice; the opportunity cost is zero.
