Veil of Assimilation lets you copy a target spell or ability whenever an opponent casts one that targets you or a permanent you control — turning their removal, theft, or bounce into a two-for-one on the spot. The ask is three mana to cast and one blue to activate, which is cheap enough that the tempo loss is negligible against the ceiling of redirecting a Cyclonic Rift or stealing a tutor effect.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Veil of Assimilation is a Commander card through and through — the format's multiplayer table means opponents are constantly casting spells that target permanents, giving the Veil consistent activation windows where it would sit cold in a one-on-one game. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but purely theoretical; reactive enchantments that cost three mana to set up and one to trigger simply can't compete with the proactive speed of those formats. Vintage has the raw power density where individual spells are worth copying, but again, the setup cost is a liability in a format built around turn-one kills. Stick to Commander, where the political value of copying a removal spell aimed at you — or piggybacking on a tutor targeting a tablemate — converts the card from cute to genuinely disruptive.

Price Context
Current price
$0.23 bulk tier
At $0.23, Veil of Assimilation is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in without a second thought. It's a newly printed card with niche but real appeal in blue Commander decks, so the floor is about where it sits now; don't expect significant movement in either direction.
