Vampire's Kiss card art
Vampire's Kiss drains each opponent for 1 life and nets you that much life — three players means 3 life lost and 3 gained before anything else happens, all for a single black mana. It's a throwaway card in most decks, but Strefan, Maurer Progenitor and Uyo, Silent Prophet turn that instant into a repeatable engine, and that's the only reason to sleeve it.

Strefan, Maurer Progenitor

Strefan, Maurer Progenitor

32.0% of decks · synergy 0.31

Strefan, Maurer Progenitor needs opponents to lose life to load Blood tokens onto him, and Vampire's Kiss hits every opponent at once for one mana — it's one of the cheapest ways to trigger that engine on turn one and start accelerating Strefan's cost reduction immediately.

02
Olivia, Crimson Bride

Olivia, Crimson Bride

16.1% of decks · synergy 0.15

Olivia, Crimson Bride's Vampire-tribal shell rewards incidental life drain, and Vampire's Kiss provides exactly that while costing almost nothing to include, making it an easy slot in decks that want to pad the life-loss count across multiple turns.

In Commander, Vampire's Kiss punches above its weight because every opponent takes the hit simultaneously — one mana to drain three players is genuine value in a 40-life format, and the life gain is real padding against aggro tables. Outside Commander, it's nearly unplayable competitively: Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy all demand more from a one-mana spell than three damage split across a single opponent. Pauper is its only realistic non-Commander home, and even there the effect is too low-impact without a dedicated life-drain payoff. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's math closely enough that the same synergy shells apply.

Price Context

Current price

$1.20 cheap tier

At $1.20, Vampire's Kiss sits at the high end of what you'd expect for a narrow tribal-synergy instant, but the price is almost entirely driven by Strefan, Maurer Progenitor demand — 32% inclusion in that archetype props it up. It holds its niche price as long as Strefan remains a popular commander, but don't expect it to climb further.
