Unwavering Initiate card art
Unwavering Initiate is a 3/2 with vigilance and embalm — it trades once in combat, then comes back as a 3/2 token that attacks without tapping. The embalm cost is steep enough that you need a deck that cares about tokens, the graveyard, or both to justify it.

In Commander, Unwavering Initiate is a role-player in token and embalm-matters shells — it won't win you a game on its own, but it provides two bodies across two zones for three mana total (embalm aside), which is real resource density in go-wide white strategies. Pauper is where Unwavering Initiate actually has a competitive case: vigilance blocks aggressors while still attacking, and the embalm provides grinding inevitability that common-slot creatures rarely offer. In Modern and Pioneer it's outclassed — three mana for a 3/2 with no immediate impact is too slow when every slot has to justify itself against efficient threats. Legacy and Vintage don't care at all. Treat Unwavering Initiate as a Commander and Pauper card; everywhere else it's just a casual inclusion.

Price Context

Current price

$0.40 bulk tier

At $0.40, Unwavering Initiate is deep bulk — you can pick up a playset for less than two dollars without thinking twice. It's unlikely to appreciate unless a new Commander precon puts embalm back in conversation, so buy it for the gameplay, not the shelf value.
