Unassuming Sage enters the battlefield and immediately draws you a card, stapling a cantrip onto a 2/2 body for three mana. The rate is unexciting outside of creature-type synergies, but in the right shell it replaces itself the moment it lands.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Unassuming Sage is legal everywhere but competes against a deep bench in every format. In Commander, the Wizard type is the most relevant hook — Azami, Lady of Scrolls and similar tribal commanders can tap it for additional draws, and the enters-the-battlefield cantrip means it never feels like a dead inclusion. In Pauper and other 60-card formats the body is too small and the rate too slow to compete with dedicated cantrips or better three-drops. Commander is the only place Unassuming Sage earns its slot, and only in tribal or enter-the-battlefield synergy decks.
