Tunneling Geopede card art
Tunneling Geopede deals 3 damage to any target every time a land enters the battlefield under your control — in a landfall deck, that's not a trigger, it's a machine gun. The cost is a three-mana 3/3 body that does nothing without land drops, so outside dedicated landfall shells, Tannuk, Memorial Ensign builds included, it's a blank.

01
Tannuk, Memorial Ensign

Tannuk, Memorial Ensign

59.2% of decks · synergy 0.56

Tannuk, Memorial Ensign churns through land drops as a core function, and Tunneling Geopede converts each of those triggers into direct damage that doesn't need combat to connect.

02

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

19.8% of decks · synergy 0.18

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might replaces any source dealing less than 4 damage with 4 — Tunneling Geopede's 3-damage landfall pings become 4-damage shots under Ojer, turning incidental triggers into meaningful burn.

04
Phylath, World Sculptor

Phylath, World Sculptor

19.3% of decks · synergy 0.16

Phylath, World Sculptor floods the board with Plant tokens off basic land ETBs, and Tunneling Geopede rides that same land-drop engine to pile direct damage on top of the go-wide plan.

05
Soul of Windgrace

Soul of Windgrace

16.7% of decks · synergy 0.15

Soul of Windgrace replays lands from the graveyard repeatedly, and each replay is another Tunneling Geopede trigger — the recursion loop turns the Geopede into sustained reach that compounds over a long game.

Tunneling Geopede is a Commander card through and through — the 100-card singleton format gives landfall decks the density of fetch lands, ramping enchantments, and land-bounce effects needed to fire the trigger multiple times a turn. In Modern and Pioneer it's legal but irrelevant; three mana for a conditional 3/3 with no immediate impact can't compete in those formats' tempo and power demands. Legacy and Vintage are similarly uninterested — the bar for creature impact is far too high. Commander is the only context where Tunneling Geopede earns its slot, specifically in green-red landfall builds where it functions as a repeatable, uncounterable damage source that closes games opponents don't see coming.

$0.37 bulk tier

At $0.37, Tunneling Geopede sits firmly in bulk territory — it's an easy include that costs less than a sleeve. Bulk rares with narrow homes rarely spike, so don't expect price movement; buy it because the deck needs it, not as a spec.
