Trustworthy Scout is a two-mana 1/3 that returns itself from the graveyard to your hand for three mana — a built-in recursion loop that turns any sacrifice outlet into an engine. The card earns its slot in decks that want a cheap, repeatable sacrifice target, and nowhere else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Trustworthy Scout finds a home in aristocrats and sacrifice shells that need a body willing to die repeatedly without disappearing — Braids, Arisen Nightmare and similar commanders that demand a trigger every turn appreciate the self-sustaining loop. Outside Commander, the card is legal in Legacy, Vintage, Modern, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them; the rate is too slow and the payoff too modest against the card quality those formats demand. Pauper is the only fringe case worth mentioning, where cheap recursive creatures occasionally slot into sacrifice or aristocrats builds, but even there Trustworthy Scout competes with better options at the same price.

$0.02 bulk tier
At $0.02, Trustworthy Scout is pure bulk — you'll pay more in shipping than the card is worth. Price stability is a non-issue; it will stay in the penny bin indefinitely unless a broken sacrifice synergy surfaces and drags it out.
