Triton Shorethief is a 1/1 blue Merfolk for one mana with no enters-the-battlefield effect, no evasion, and no relevant ability beyond its creature type. It sees play purely as a Merfolk tribal body, and in any context where that tribal tag doesn't matter, it has no function.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Triton Shorethief is legal in every major format but earns a slot in almost none of them. In Commander, it only belongs in dedicated Merfolk tribal builds where the headcount matters — think Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, which rewards tapping and stacking Merfolk — and even there it competes against Merfolk with actual abilities. In Pauper and Modern, the Merfolk tribe has enough one-drops that do something on arrival or have evasion that Triton Shorethief sits at the bottom of the depth chart. Legacy Merfolk lists have no reason to look at it when Lord of Atlantis exists.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Triton Shorethief sits deep in bulk territory, which is exactly where a vanilla 1/1 belongs. The price won't move — there's no deck that wants it badly enough to create demand.
