Trailblazer makes a creature unblockable for a turn by giving it landwalk for each basic land type opponents control — and in a four-player Commander game, that condition is almost always met. One mana for guaranteed damage delivery is a clean rate, especially in decks that care about combat triggers or commander damage.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Trailblazer does its best work: four opponents means four land bases, and nonbasic-heavy decks still run at least a handful of basics, so the landwalk clause reliably fires. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but far too narrow for those formats — one-mana combat tricks need to do more than punch through blockers in a 1v1 context where board states are more controlled. Oathbreaker parallels Commander closely enough that the same logic applies: enough opponents, enough basics, reliable unblockable.

$0.56 bulk tier
At $0.56, Trailblazer sits comfortably in bulk territory — easy to pick up without any budget consideration. It won't appreciate; it's a bulk rare that stays bulk, but the entry cost is low enough that the value question is purely about whether it earns its slot.
