Touch of the Void deals 3 damage to any target and exiles the source of that damage — the exile rider is the whole reason to run it over a cheaper or more efficient burn spell. Three mana for 3 damage is below the curve in every Constructed format, so this slot is almost always better filled.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Touch of the Void is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it earns a slot almost exclusively in Pauper, where the common card pool makes unconditional 3-damage removal with an exile clause meaningfully scarce. In Commander, three mana for 3 damage is too inefficient — most tables are playing 40-life games where this barely registers, and the exile clause doesn't justify the cost when Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile exist. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, faster and cheaper removal dominates every role Touch of the Void might fill.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Touch of the Void is deep bulk — buy a playset for a quarter. It's unlikely to climb unless a niche Pauper archetype pushes demand, so there's no reason to hold copies speculatively.
