Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Topan Freeblade is a Pauper-legal two-drop that can pull weight in aggressive white strategies — vigilance means it attacks and blocks freely, and the renown trigger is easy to land in a format without universal cheap removal. In Modern and Pioneer it's simply outclassed; white aggro has access to Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Recruitment Officer, so a vanilla-ish two-drop with a one-time buff doesn't make the cut. In Commander, Topan Freeblade is a background filler piece at best — 40-life tables make connecting for renown trivial once, but a 3/3 that does nothing beyond attack isn't pulling weight in a format that scales to 100-card threats.
