Tome Blast mills a target player for the number of cards in their graveyard — a payoff that scales hard in decks already filling graves. The catch is it does nothing proactively; you need a yard stuffed before it delivers.

In Commander, Tome Blast is a graveyard-synergy card that rewards patience — by mid-game, a single opponent can be sitting on 20-plus cards in the bin, making this a legitimate threat in mill-focused decks. Outside Commander, the card sees essentially no competitive play; Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy all have faster, more reliable mill packages that don't require the graveyard to already be loaded before they function. Pauper is the one format where budget mill is a real archetype, but even there Tome Blast competes poorly against cards that fill the yard and close simultaneously. It's a Commander-or-nowhere card.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Tome Blast is deep bulk — you're paying almost nothing for the effect. Bulk commons at this price point don't appreciate unless they break into a competitive archetype, and nothing about Tome Blast's design suggests that's coming.
