Tidings draws you four cards for five mana — a clean rate that refills a empty hand in one shot. It's a perfectly serviceable Commander staple, never exciting, never wrong.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Tidings is a Commander card through and through — the format's slower pace and higher starting life total make a five-mana sorcery that replaces itself four times over a reasonable inclusion, especially in decks without access to black or green's more efficient draw. In Legacy and Vintage, it's unplayable; those formats have Ancestral Recall, Brainstorm, and draw spells that cost a fraction of the mana for comparable or better effect. Modern has enough card advantage engines that Tidings never sees competitive play there either. Commander is where it earns its slot, and even there it's competing with Gadwick, the Wizened, Fact or Fiction, and cheaper instant-speed options — so it lands in budget lists more than tuned ones.
