Thundering Ceratok hits the board and immediately hands your entire team trample, turning a wide creature base into a lethal alpha strike. Five mana for a 4/3 with no evasion of its own is a real cost, but in the right stompy shell the grant effect does more damage than the body ever needs to.

In Commander, Thundering Ceratok is a role-player in green stompy or token-go-wide decks that need a one-shot trample enabler to push through a defended board. Pauper is where it sees the most competitive daylight — green Stompy at common is a real archetype, and a 4/3 that grants the team trample is a legitimate threat at that power level. In Modern and Pioneer the bar is simply too high; five mana for a 4/3 with no immediate board protection folds to the format's removal density before it ever attacks. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a creature this slow and fragile. If you're playing it, it's in Commander or Pauper.
