Thunder of Hooves hits every opponent for damage equal to the number of creatures you control — in a token-heavy Commander deck, that's a lethal swing out of nowhere for three mana. It's a genuine finisher stapled to a cheap sorcery, and it earns a slot in any go-wide strategy.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Thunder of Hooves is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is the only format where it actually wants to live. Legacy and Vintage run lean and interactive — a sorcery-speed damage spread that requires a board state to function has no home there. In Commander, go-wide token decks can realistically swing for 10–20 damage across three opponents simultaneously, turning Thunder of Hooves into a one-card table wipe on life totals. Oathbreaker is a reasonable secondary home for the same reason: the planeswalker-plus-signature-spell format rewards explosive token payoffs.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Thunder of Hooves is deep bulk — pick it up without a second thought. Bulk uncommons with narrow applications rarely climb, so don't expect this to appreciate, but at this price the question is never cost.
