Threefold Signal replaces itself and gives your next creature three keyword abilities — ward, trample, and haste — for two mana, all on the stack before the creature even resolves. That's a tempo play and a protection layer in one, and in Commander it outperforms most single-keyword enablers at the same cost.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Threefold Signal is a Commander card through and through — the format's high interaction density makes haste and ward genuinely matter, and the cantrip keeps it from being a dead card in hand. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes against a power level where keyword soup on a sorcery won't move the needle. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's creature-centric dynamics that Threefold Signal can pull weight there too, especially in aggressive Planeswalker shells that want their threats to dodge the first removal spell.

Price Context
Current price
$0.37 bulk tier
At $0.37, Threefold Signal sits firmly in bulk territory — easy to pick up without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow applications tend to stay flat, so don't expect movement unless a high-profile Commander build pushes demand.
