Thought Erasure card art
Thought Erasure strips the best card from an opponent's hand and replaces itself with a surveil — two meaningful effects stapled to a two-mana sorcery. It's one of the most efficient pieces of hand disruption in Dimir colors, and any black-blue deck that cares about what's coming should run it.

In Commander, Thought Erasure is a strong inclusion in any Dimir or three-color black-blue shell — the surveil triggers graveyard synergies, filters toward combo pieces, and the discard hits before opponents can deploy their threat. In Pioneer and Modern it has seen real competitive play as a proactive disruption piece in control and midrange sideboards, where knowing and dismantling an opponent's hand wins games on the spot. Legacy and Vintage have access to more busted one-mana options, so Thought Erasure doesn't make the cut there. Oathbreaker is another natural home: with fewer players and a faster clock, ripping a single key card at two mana can swing a game decisively.

unknown tier

Thought Erasure is a widely reprinted uncommon that typically sits well under a dollar in most printings. At that price there's no reason to hesitate — it's one of the most efficient hand-disruption spells in its colors for essentially nothing.
