Thirst for Knowledge card art
Thirst for Knowledge draws three cards at instant speed for three mana — the discard cost barely registers in artifact-heavy decks that treat the graveyard as a resource. In Sharuum the Hegemon builds especially, pitching an artifact to the bin is often a feature, not a tax.

Sharuum the Hegemon

Sharuum the Hegemon

52.1% of decks · synergy 0.50

Sharuum the Hegemon runs Thirst for Knowledge in over half its decks because pitching an artifact to the graveyard sets up exactly the reanimation loop the deck is built around — it draws into combo pieces while loading the bin simultaneously.

Mishra, Eminent One

Mishra, Eminent One

38.5% of decks · synergy 0.37

Mishra, Eminent One wants artifacts in hand to copy and artifacts in the graveyard to recur, so Thirst for Knowledge does double duty: refuel the hand and stock the bin on the same card at instant speed.

Dr. Madison Li

Dr. Madison Li

38.6% of decks · synergy 0.33

Dr. Madison Li decks are artifact-dense enough that the discard clause of Thirst for Knowledge is almost always free, and digging three deep at instant speed finds the key artifact pieces the deck needs to assemble its engine.

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel

37.7% of decks · synergy 0.32

Inspirit, Flagship Vessel builds lean on artifacts and value spells that operate at instant speed, and Thirst for Knowledge slots cleanly into that pattern — three cards on the opponent's end step for three mana is exactly the tempo the deck wants.

Liberty Prime, Recharged

Liberty Prime, Recharged

36.5% of decks · synergy 0.31

Liberty Prime, Recharged demands a steady flow of artifacts to function, and Thirst for Knowledge's ability to pitch one to the graveyard while drawing three keeps the engine fed even when the hand runs thin.

In Commander, Thirst for Knowledge is a staple for any blue deck that runs fifteen or more artifacts — the discard is irrelevant when you can pitch a Myr Retriever or a Krark-Clan Ironworks to the bin. In Legacy and Vintage, the card saw real play in artifact combo shells and remains a clean draw spell in lists that can satisfy the discard without pain. Modern has enough competition at three mana that Thirst for Knowledge is largely outpaced by cheaper options, but it's never unplayable if the artifact count justifies it. Pioneer access hasn't produced a breakout home yet, though artifact-matters brews in that format are still evolving.
