Thijarian Witness card art
Thijarian Witness lets you ignore a creature's death entirely — whenever it's about to die, you can exile it to a safe zone and bring it back end of turn, repeatedly protecting it from board wipes, targeted removal, and sacrifice effects. The cost is three mana and tapping it, which is real, but the upside of cycling a key creature through every sweeper your opponents throw down is worth it in the right shell.

Format Analysis

Thijarian Witness is a Commander card through and through — the singleton format's emphasis on key permanents and repeated board wipes makes its protection effect consistently relevant, and a three-mana artifact fits into nearly any color identity. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but has no competitive role; those formats move too fast for a tap-to-protect engine that operates at sorcery-like timing. Oathbreaker follows similar logic to Commander and is the one other format where Thijarian Witness earns a real look, particularly if your planeswalker is the key threat you're sheltering.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Thijarian Witness is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a common box without thinking twice. Bulk artifacts with niche protection effects rarely spike, so don't expect the price to move unless a commander gets printed that makes this a staple.
