The Reality Chip card art
The Reality Chip lets you play cards off the top of your library as long as it's equipped — a permanent Sensei's Divining Top effect stapled to a 0/4 body for two mana. The equip cost is zero if you attach it to a legendary creature, which means commanders like Kellan, the Kid turn it on for free the turn it lands.

Kellan, the Kid

63.3% of decks · synergy 0.60

Kellan, the Kid equips The Reality Chip for free, immediately converting the top of the library into a castable resource without spending an additional mana — the synergy score of 0.63 reflects that this is close to an auto-include rather than a flex slot.

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

60.6% of decks · synergy 0.58

Tetsuo, Imperial Champion

Tetsuo, Imperial Champion

oathbreaker

Commander is the natural home for The Reality Chip: legendary creatures are everywhere, so the free equip condition is trivially met, and a sustained top-of-library effect is far more powerful over a 40-life, multi-turn game than in a 20-life sprint. In Modern and Pioneer it has seen fringe play in equipment-based or artifact-matters shells, but without a reliable legendary host those formats make you pay the full equip cost, which blunts the value significantly. Legacy and Vintage have access to faster engines and stronger card-selection tools, so The Reality Chip doesn't make the cut in those formats competitively. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's dynamic well enough that it performs similarly there.

Price Context

Current price

$3.64 cheap tier

At $3.64, The Reality Chip sits in the cheap tier and punches well above that price point given what it does on the board. The combination of high Commander demand and modest reprint history has kept it stable — it's not a card that trends toward bulk.
