The Circle of Loyalty enters as a 6/6 with vigilance, pumps every Knight you control, and produces a 2/2 Knight token whenever you cast a legendary spell — all on one card for six mana. That rate is real, and in a Knights build it hits harder than the mana cost suggests; Dion, Bahamut's Dominant reduces it to as few as one mana, which breaks the math entirely.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy
Dion, Bahamut's Dominant
Dion, Bahamut's Dominant cuts the cost of The Circle of Loyalty by one mana for each legendary creature and planeswalker you control, routinely making it a one- or two-mana 6/6 that then rewards every subsequent legendary cast with a free Knight — the engine feeds itself.

Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir
Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir turns Knight tokens into a threat, and The Circle of Loyalty keeps generating them off legendary spells while simultaneously pumping the whole squad.

Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale
Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale wants a wide board of Knights to equip cheaply and draw cards from, and The Circle of Loyalty supplies tokens, a tribal anthem, and a large blocker in one slot.

Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge
Shanid, Sleepers' Scourge rewards legendary-heavy lists with card draw, and The Circle of Loyalty's token-on-legendary-cast trigger turns every spell in those decks into an additional body.

The Council of Four
The Council of Four builds around legendary permanents and wants every legendary spell to pull double duty; The Circle of Loyalty's triggered token generation means each one also grows the board.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where The Circle of Loyalty actually lives — legendary-dense Knight builds are the natural home, and the format's singleton structure means you're always happy to see it. In competitive non-rotating formats like Legacy and Modern it's a niche consideration at best: six mana for a lord effect that requires a tribal commitment is too slow without a commander reducing the cost. Pioneer has similar issues; the card sees essentially no play there. Oathbreaker can replicate the Commander dynamic if the planeswalker and signature spell support Knights or legends, but that's a narrow window.

Price Context
Current price
$1.64 cheap tier
At $1.64, The Circle of Loyalty sits firmly in the cheap tier — it's a bulk rare that overdelivers for its price in the right shell. That rate is unlikely to move dramatically given how format-specific its homes are, so pick it up whenever you're building Knights without thinking twice.
