Tendril of the Mycotyrant
Creature — Fungus Wizard
: Put seven +1/+1 counters on target noncreature land you control. It becomes a 0/0 Fungus creature with haste. It's still a land.

Tendril of the Mycotyrant drops a 1/1 black Fungus token every time a creature enters the battlefield under your control — that's a passive token doubler stapled to a one-drop. The cost is that it does nothing on its own; you need a steady creature stream to make it pay off, and in the wrong shell it's just a 1/1.

Commander is where Tendril of the Mycotyrant belongs — token and aristocrats decks at 100 cards run enough creature density to trigger it every turn cycle. In 1v1 formats like Modern and Pioneer, a 1/1 that generates 1/1s at sorcery-speed creature pace is too slow against interactive decks; it won't survive long enough to generate meaningful value. Standard is the one exception where a go-wide Fungus or token synergy shell could leverage it, but the card still needs support to be anything more than a fringe inclusion. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the power bar is too high.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Tendril of the Mycotyrant is deep bulk — you're paying for a staple slot, not a chase card. Bulk rares with this kind of niche ceiling rarely climb unless a future set prints a direct Fungus or Mycotyrant payoff, so pick it up for any deck that wants it now and don't expect the price to move.
