Temporary Insanity steals any creature on the battlefield until end of turn — attack with it, sac it, use its abilities, then hand it back dead or just let it return to its owner. The cost is a single red mana and a discard, which in the right shell is a feature, not a drawback.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

Commander is where Temporary Insanity earns its slot — three opponents means three potential targets, and sac outlets turn a one-mana steal into a permanent removal spell. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but outclassed by Scorchbreath and Act on Impulse-style tempo plays that simply end games faster. Oathbreaker's compressed game state makes the one-mana ceiling attractive, especially in red shells that want to discard for value. Outside those formats, Temporary Insanity isn't legal, and it wouldn't see play if it were.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Temporary Insanity sits firmly in bulk territory — buy a playset without thinking about it. Bulk red instants with narrow applications don't spike unless a commander synergy goes viral, so don't expect movement.
