Tempest Owl card art
Tempest Owl enters with flying and as many +1/+1 counters as lands you put into play this turn — in a landfall-heavy shell that's routinely a 4/4 or 5/5 flier for three mana. The ceiling is real, but the floor is a vanilla 1/1, so it lives or dies entirely by how many lands you're moving in a single turn.

Tempest Owl is a Commander card first and almost exclusively. In Pauper it's legal but competes poorly against more consistent threats, and the landfall payoff is harder to engineer without dedicated fetch or bounce-land synergies. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the rate doesn't come close to what those formats demand even at its ceiling. Commander is where Tempest Owl finds a home, specifically in decks built around playing multiple lands per turn: Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait, Tatyova, Benthic Druid, or any Simic commander that chains land drops routinely.

Price Context

Current price

$0.11 bulk tier

At $0.11, Tempest Owl is pure bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box, not tracking it on a buylist. Demand is narrow enough that the price has nowhere meaningful to go, so grab it for the build and don't think about it again.
