Tectonic Fiend forces opponents to block a 7/7 trampler every turn or eat 7 damage — that's a clock that demands an answer. The catch is real: skip attacking with it and it deals 7 to you, so it belongs in decks built to swing every combat, not control shells that want to hold up mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Tectonic Fiend sees its most relevant play, slotting into aggressive red decks — Kardur, Doomscourge or Isshin, Two Heavens as One shells that manufacture mandatory combat and punish opponents for not blocking. In Legacy and Vintage it's outclassed by faster threats and cleaner finishers at every point on the curve, so it never sees competitive play there. Modern similarly has no room for a six-mana creature with a symmetric punisher clause when the format ends games on turn four.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Tectonic Fiend is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a dollar box, not a singles binder. Bulk rares with narrow conditions rarely climb without a combo or format breakout, and nothing on the horizon suggests either for this one.
