Taunt forces all creatures target opponent controls to block a creature you choose — effectively removing their entire board from combat on your turn for one blue mana. It's a niche combat trick, but in the right deck it's a full alpha-strike enabler for a single spell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Taunt earns its slot, specifically in decks that want to push one massive threat through a wide defensive board — voltron commanders and token swarm decks with a designated champion attacker both benefit. Legacy and Vintage allow it, but those formats don't play combat tricks at sorcery speed for value, so it sees essentially no play there. Taunt is not legal in Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper, which keeps its audience squarely in the casual-to-mid Commander space.

Price Context
Current price
$1.21 cheap tier
At $1.21, Taunt sits in the cheap tier — low enough that running it costs nothing meaningful if it fits the game plan. It's too narrow to appreciate in price, but it won't disappear from your collection either.
