Tangle Angler forces all creatures an opponent controls to block it each combat, which is either a political nuke or a suicide button depending on your board state. The five-mana cost and the lack of any evasion or protection mean it rarely survives long enough to matter outside of dedicated Infect or indestructible shells.

Tangle Angler is a Commander card through and through — the forced-block effect has its highest value in multiplayer, where you can threaten one opponent's entire board and still swing elsewhere. In Infect strategies it serves double duty, dragging blockers into unfavorable trades while your poisoned creatures stack counters. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it is technically legal but practically irrelevant; five mana for a 2/3 with no immediate impact is nowhere near competitive. Commander is the only format where Tangle Angler earns a slot, and even there it needs the right shell.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Tangle Angler is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick out of a dollar box without thinking twice. That price is stable because demand is narrow and supply is abundant, so there is no urgency to buy and no risk of it running up on you.
