Talent of the Telepath

Sorcery

Target opponent reveals the top seven cards of their library. You may cast an instant or sorcery spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Then that player puts the rest into their graveyard.
Spell mastery — If there are two or more instant and/or sorcery cards in your graveyard, you may cast up to two instant and/or sorcery spells from among the revealed cards instead of one.

Talent of the Telepath card art
Talent of the Telepath casts up to two instants or sorceries from an opponent's graveyard for free — effectively a two-for-one that scales with whatever the best player at the table has been doing. The catch is the spellmastery rider and the single-use nature, but at four mana in blue-red, the floor is already high enough that Zevlor, Elturel Exile can copy the whole thing and double the raid.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Zevlor, Elturel Exile

Zevlor, Elturel Exile

51.7% of decks · synergy 0.51

Zevlor, Elturel Exile copies any instant or sorcery that targets only a single opponent, which means Talent of the Telepath — already stealing two spells — can be replicated for each other opponent at the table, turning one card into a full graveyard sweep across the pod.

02
Tasha, the Witch Queen

Tasha, the Witch Queen

44.4% of decks · synergy 0.43

Tasha, the Witch Queen rewards casting spells from opponents' libraries and graveyards by creating Demon tokens, so Talent of the Telepath's two free casts can trigger her ability twice and generate board presence on top of the card advantage.

Talent of the Telepath is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's a Commander card through and through — the power scales directly with the quality of spells opponents have spent the game deploying, and multiplayer tables almost guarantee there's something worth stealing. In Legacy and Vintage the competition for four-mana sorceries is brutal, and you can't reliably engineer spellmastery conditions as consistently as dedicated spell-recursion pieces. Modern and Pioneer offer more realistic homes in spell-heavy midrange shells, but the variance of needing a useful graveyard to target caps the ceiling. Commander is where Talent of the Telepath belongs.

Price Context

Current price

$0.57 bulk tier

At $0.57, Talent of the Telepath sits firmly in bulk territory, which undervalues what it does in the right shell. Bulk rares with a genuine 50%-plus inclusion rate in their best commanders tend to hold that floor easily — there's no reason to expect this one to crater further.
