Tainted Peak enters untapped and produces black or red mana as long as you control a Swamp — that's the whole deal, and in Rakdos, Mardu, or Grixis builds that reliably run 8–12 Swamps, the condition is almost never relevant. Disa the Restless decks, which want every pip of black and red available on curve, run it as a budget dual with essentially no downside.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Disa the Restless
Disa the Restless operates in Jund but leans hard on black and red for her Lhurgoyf-token engine, and Tainted Peak's Swamp density in those builds means it functionally enters untapped every game.

Olivia, Opulent Outlaw
Olivia, Opulent Outlaw wants black and red mana on curve to push through her Vampire tribal package, and Tainted Peak slots in as an untapped dual that costs under a dollar.

Caesar, Legion's Emperor
Caesar, Legion's Emperor runs wide token strategies that need both colors reliably in the early turns, and Tainted Peak's conditional untap is effectively unconditional in a deck built around black sources.

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls
Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls demands heavy black commitment and benefits from any land that enters untapped — Tainted Peak shows up in nearly three-quarters of Valgavoth lists precisely because the Swamp count is never in question.

Strefan, Maurer Progenitor
Strefan, Maurer Progenitor is a Vampire commander firmly planted in black-red, and Tainted Peak's near-automatic untap condition makes it a straightforward include in over two-thirds of Strefan builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Tainted Peak is a Commander card through and through — the 100-card singleton format's high Swamp counts are exactly what make its condition trivially satisfied. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; those formats have access to original dual lands and fetchable dual lands that do strictly more. Commander is the one place Tainted Peak earns consistent play, particularly in two-color Rakdos and three-color Mardu or Grixis builds where the Swamp count sits high enough that the untap condition is effectively never a liability. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home for the same reason.

Price Context
Current price
$1.07 cheap tier
At $1.07, Tainted Peak sits in the cheap tier — it's the kind of land you pick up without thinking and never regret. Stable demand from Commander keeps the floor firm; don't expect meaningful price movement in either direction.
