Syr Armont, the Redeemer
Legendary Creature — Human Knight

Syr Armont, the Redeemer puts a +1/+1 counter and a Role token on every creature you control the moment it enters — a board-wide pump that doubles as fuel for any mechanic that cares about enchanted creatures. The cost is a three-mana 2/3 body that does nothing if the board is empty, so it lives or dies by how reliably you can flood the battlefield before it arrives; in Gylwain, Casting Director decks that distribute Roles by the handful, that condition is almost always met.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Gylwain, Casting Director
Gylwain, Casting Director hands out Role tokens on cast, so Syr Armont, the Redeemer enters a board already bristling with enchanted creatures and converts every one of those Roles into a free +1/+1 counter — the two cards form a straightforward go-wide pump loop that rewards playing any creature at all.

Ellivere of the Wild Court
Ellivere of the Wild Court builds around Virtuous Role tokens and rewards having enchanted creatures in play, which means Syr Armont, the Redeemer's enter-the-battlefield layer slots in cleanly — every creature Ellivere has already suited up gets a counter, and the new Roles Syr Armont distributes add to Ellivere's own card-draw trigger count.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Syr Armont, the Redeemer is legal across every major format but lives almost exclusively in Commander, where the math is simply better — one ETB that hits a full board of ten creatures is a different card than one that hits two in a one-on-one game. In constructed formats like Pioneer or Modern, a three-mana 2/3 that requires an enchanted-creature shell to do real work is too conditional to compete with faster threats, and the Role mechanic hasn't found a dedicated home in those formats anyway. Commander is where it earns its slot, specifically in Selesnya or Bant Role-matters decks where the board-wide counter distribution is a genuine tempo swing rather than a marginal bonus.

$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Syr Armont, the Redeemer is deep bulk — you're paying postage, not the card. Bulk rares with narrow synergy profiles rarely climb without a format breakout, and nothing in the current metagame points that direction, so treat it as a free include for any Role-matters build and move on.
