Suncrusher enters with up to three -1/-1 counters to distribute freely across any targets, then threatens to repeat that drain every turn by paying four mana and tapping it. Seven mana is a real ask, but a repeatable creature-shrinking engine that also triggers proliferate synergies is a payoff worth building around.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

Commander is where Suncrusher has a real home — long games give you the turns to activate it repeatedly, and -1/-1 counter synergies with commanders like Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician turn every activation into a cascade of triggers. In Legacy and Vintage it's unplayable; those formats end too fast for a seven-mana do-nothing-until-next-turn threat to matter. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's slower tempo that Suncrusher could find a niche there in the right shell, but the 60-card formats simply don't give it the runway it needs.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Suncrusher is bulk, which makes it a low-risk pickup for any -1/-1 counter or proliferate deck. Bulk rares with narrow synergy homes tend to stay cheap, so don't expect movement unless a future commander pushes the archetype into the spotlight.
