Sumala Woodshaper card art
Sumala Woodshaper replaces itself with a creature or enchantment from the top four cards — solid filtering stapled to a 0/1 body for two mana. The cost is that body: 0/1 for two does nothing in combat, so you're paying two mana for a cantrip that happens to leave a creature behind.

In Commander, Sumala Woodshaper earns its slot specifically in enchantress and Elf-tribal decks — the filtering is relevant, the body contributes to synergy counts, and two mana is cheap enough to run out early. Outside of those niches, a vanilla 0/1 that might miss the hit is too fragile to justify the slot over pure card draw. In Pauper, the common legality is meaningful: creature-based filtering at common is a real resource, and any shell running both creatures and enchantments can use the scry-lite effect. In Modern and Pioneer, it doesn't compete — the card is simply too low-impact against the raw power of those formats. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for obvious reasons.

Current price

$0.11 bulk tier

At $0.11, Sumala Woodshaper is deep bulk — you can pick up a playset for under fifty cents without thinking twice. Bulk commons rarely move in price, so there's no urgency either way; just grab it if the deck calls for it.
