Stronghold Discipline drains each opponent for one life per creature you control — in a token-heavy Commander deck, that's a 20-plus life swing on a four-mana sorcery. The rate is real; the restriction to black and the sorcery speed are the only reasons it isn't everywhere.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| pioneer | not legal |

| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Stronghold Discipline earns its slot — three opponents means the drain triggers three separate times, turning even a modest board of ten creatures into 30 life lost across the table. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it's legal but largely invisible; faster, more redundant life-drain packages and combo lines make a four-mana sorcery too slow to compete. Pauper is the one competitive format worth noting: black token strategies exist at common, and Stronghold Discipline can close a game that has stalled, though it competes with cheaper finishers. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's logic at smaller scale — fewer opponents, but the drain still scales with your creature count and can steal a win out of nowhere.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Stronghold Discipline is deep bulk — a pickup that costs less than a sleeve. The price is stable because supply is high and the card sees no competitive demand outside Commander, so there's no realistic scenario where it spikes.
