In Commander, Street Spasm earns its seat in red decks that face token swarms or artifact creatures with low toughness — overloading it for six mana clears a surprising amount of board state at instant speed. Outside Commander, it sees essentially no competitive play: Modern and Pioneer both have cheaper, more efficient burn and sweeper options that make Street Spasm redundant. Legacy and Vintage are too fast for a six-mana overload to matter. Oathbreaker is the one fringe case where a flexible instant-speed sweeper on a lower life total can punch above its weight.
