Stormbreath Dragon lands as a 4/4 flying, haste, pro-white threat that can attack immediately and dodge the most common removal color the turn it enters. The monstrosity ability is a genuine late-game closer, but the base body at five mana is already doing real work.

In Commander, Stormbreath Dragon is a solid mid-tier Dragon for tribal builds — the haste and protection from white matter in a format where Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are everywhere, but five mana is competitive space and it doesn't generate immediate card advantage. In Pioneer, Stormbreath Dragon saw real play as a top-end finisher in red aggro and midrange shells, where pro-white specifically dodged the format's dominant removal suite and the monstrosity ability closed stalled games. Modern has largely passed it by — the format's speed and the availability of more efficient threats push it out of most sideboards. Legacy and Vintage don't want it at all; five mana is a liability there regardless of the body.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Stormbreath Dragon is deep bulk — a former Standard staple that has fully bottomed out in price. It holds negligible trade value, but for Dragon tribal Commander builds it's one of the cheapest ways to get a hasted, pro-white flyer into the 99.
