Steelclad Spirit enters as a 0/0 and grows based on how many artifacts and enchantments you control, which means it scales from unplayable to threatening depending entirely on your board state. The payoff is real in the right shell, but the fragility of a creature whose power depends on permanents you don't want to lose is the cost.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Steelclad Spirit belongs in artifact or enchantment-heavy builds where the count routinely hits five or more — otherwise it's just a small beater with no floor. Pauper is the format where it has the most competitive footing, slotting into Azorius or Selesnya enchantress and artifact shells that can consistently pump it. In Modern and Pioneer, the two-mana slot is far too contested for a creature with no enters-the-battlefield effect and no protection, so Steelclad Spirit doesn't make the cut there. Legacy and Vintage have even less patience for this kind of conditional threat. Stick to Commander and Pauper for any serious consideration.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Steelclad Spirit is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in or pull from a common box. There's no reason to expect price movement here; supply is high and demand is narrow.
