Stealer of Secrets is a three-mana 2/2 that draws a card whenever it deals combat damage to a player — solid in theory, but five total mana to connect once is a steep ask in any competitive room. Better evasive card-draw creatures exist at lower cost, and Stealer of Secrets rarely makes the cut outside budget or Pauper builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Stealer of Secrets is a budget role-player at best — it fits niche Dimir and Grixis decks that want cheap bodies rewarding combat damage, but it rarely survives long enough to generate more than one or two draws. Pauper is where it actually earns a spot; commons that convert unblocked hits into card advantage are genuinely scarce at that rarity, and the format's slower clock gives it time to connect. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer the card is legal but functionally invisible — three mana for a 2/2 with no evasion is not a competitive rate in any of those formats. Vintage is the same story: legal, irrelevant.

$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Stealer of Secrets is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. The price is stable precisely because demand is low; don't expect movement in either direction.
