Stalking Assassin card art
Stalking Assassin removes any tapped creature, no questions asked, at instant speed — the cost is that you're spending two mana and a tap to set it up, then two more mana and another tap to execute, so the whole operation runs four mana across two turns. That deliberate pace keeps it out of competitive slots, but in creature-heavy Commander pods where opponents telegraph their attackers, it's clean, repeatable removal stapled to a body.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

Stalking Assassin is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but realistically it only sees play in Commander. Legacy and Vintage have access to unconditional removal so efficient that a four-mana, two-turn process never makes the cut. In Commander, the calculus is friendlier: games go long, creatures stay tapped after combat, and a repeatable destroy effect on a 1/1 body can accumulate real value over a full game. Oathbreaker is legal but too fast for this kind of setup to matter.

Price Context

Current price

$0.36 bulk tier

At $0.36, Stalking Assassin is deep bulk — easy to pick up as throw-in trade bait or a cheap slot-filler. There's no pressure on this price; it reflects the card's narrow, slow role accurately and isn't going anywhere.
