Stain the Mind removes every copy of a named card from every zone simultaneously — hand, library, graveyard, and exile — making it the most thorough answer to a combo piece that black has access to. The catch is convoke: you're tapping your own creatures to cast it, which means it belongs in go-wide shells, not control lists.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Stain the Mind actually earns a slot — three opponents means three libraries worth of threats to strip, and naming a single win condition can lock a table out of its primary line. In competitive Legacy and Vintage, the convoke cost is a dealbreaker; faster and cheaper discard exists, so it sees essentially no play there. Modern and Pioneer have the same problem: by the time you have creatures to convoke it out, the game is already decided. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander case on a smaller scale, and token-heavy builds that can convoke it out early get real mileage from the omni-zone erasure.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Stain the Mind is deep bulk — a trivial pickup for any token deck that wants the effect. Price is unlikely to move absent a reprint into a high-profile product, but at this number there's no reason to hesitate.
