Sprouting Thrinax dies and immediately replaces itself with three Saprolings — that's four bodies for three mana, which is the entire pitch. Slimefoot and Squee turbocharges the deal by recurring Thrinax from the graveyard repeatedly, turning each death loop into a Saproling factory on demand.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Slimefoot and Squee
Slimefoot and Squee is the premier home for Sprouting Thrinax because the commander recurs it from the graveyard and puts it directly into play, resetting the three-Saproling death trigger as many times as you have mana and sacrifice outlets.

Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher wants a flood of sacrifice fodder, and Sprouting Thrinax delivers four bodies for three mana — the three Saprolings it leaves behind feed Prossh's power pump and fuel a Food Chain loop if that's the line you're on.

Kresh the Bloodbraided
Kresh the Bloodbraided grows every time a creature dies, so Sprouting Thrinax is essentially a one-card +4/+4 trigger: sacrifice the Thrinax, watch Kresh get huge, and three replacement tokens sit in play ready for the next wave.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Sprouting Thrinax is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but its real home is Commander, where three-for-one value compounds over a long game and sacrifice synergies are everywhere. In Modern and Legacy it's too slow and too underpowered — three mana for a 3/3 that dies to make 1/1s doesn't compete with what those formats are doing on turns three and four. Oathbreaker can support it in a Jund-tokens shell, though the 60-card singleton constraint limits the recursion loops that make Thrinax genuinely broken in Commander.
