Spore Crawler puts a 1/2 body on the board and makes a 1/1 Insect token the moment it enters — two creatures for three mana. That's a reasonable rate for token-wide synergies, but nowhere near efficient enough to compete outside dedicated go-wide or populate strategies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Spore Crawler is a role-player in dedicated token or sacrifice decks — it doesn't belong in a generic green shell. Pauper is where it has the most plausible home, since the common token-creature density there is high enough that two bodies for three mana clears the bar in go-wide builds. In Modern, Pioneer, Legacy, and Vintage, Spore Crawler is simply outclassed; every format with access to better three-drops offers no reason to run it. Oathbreaker follows the Commander logic — playable only when the planeswalker and signature spell specifically reward creature count or tokens entering.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Spore Crawler is deep bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card that fills a narrow role. That price is stable because demand is low and supply is essentially unlimited; don't expect movement in either direction.
