Spoils of War puts +1/+1 counters on your creatures equal to the number of artifact and creature cards in your graveyard — in the right deck, that's a board-wide pump spell that scales into the double digits for three mana. The setup cost is real, but if you're already running sacrifice synergies or self-mill, it pays off without extra work.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |

| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is the primary home for Spoils of War — longer games, larger graveyards, and the prevalence of sacrifice and self-mill strategies all let it count high enough to be a legitimate finisher. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but sees no meaningful play; three mana for a combat trick can't compete with the density of fast interaction in those formats, and graveyard hate is pervasive enough to blank it entirely. Oathbreaker offers a narrower version of the Commander upside, where a sacrifice-focused pairing can set up a large pump, though the compressed game length works against it somewhat.

Price Context
Current price
$2.64 cheap tier
At $2.64, Spoils of War sits in the range where it's an easy include for any deck that can reliably support it — low enough to try without much deliberation. It's a single-printing niche card, so the floor is stable, but don't expect wide price movement in either direction without a reprint.
