Splitting Slime card art
Splitting Slime puts a copy of itself onto the battlefield every time it storms — so one cast at storm count 3 means four Ooze tokens hitting the board simultaneously. Six mana is a real ask, but in any deck that strings spells together, the payoff scales hard enough to justify it.

Aeve, Progenitor Ooze is the ideal home — it's a Storm spell itself, so Splitting Slime joins a shell already built around high storm counts, and every copy that triggers adds another Ooze to a board that Aeve is already pumping with +1/+1 counters.

Format Analysis

Splitting Slime is a Commander card through and through — the Storm mechanic rewards the longer, spell-dense games the format produces, and 100-card singleton means you're rarely drawing it too early to fire off. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but has never seen play; competitive Storm decks in those formats want kills at storm count 5 or 6 in the first two turns, and a six-mana do-nothing-on-resolution body doesn't fit that math. Oathbreaker is the only other format where Splitting Slime finds a plausible home, specifically in a spellslinger shell with the right signature spell to inflate the count before the Slime resolves.

Price Context

Current price

$0.79 bulk tier

At $0.79, Splitting Slime sits in bulk territory — cheap enough to throw into any Ooze or Storm list without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow tribal applications tend to stay flat, so don't expect movement unless Ooze tribal gets a high-profile commander push.
