Spire Patrol enters, taps a creature, and keeps it tapped until Spire Patrol leaves — a tempo play stapled to a 3/2 flying body for four mana. The rate is too slow for competitive formats and too replaceable in Commander to earn a slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Spire Patrol is a fringe include — the detain effect can shut off a problematic creature for a full turn cycle, but a four-mana 3/2 needs to do more than that to justify a slot in a 99-card deck. In Modern and Legacy, it never sees play; the format speed makes a four-drop with a one-time tap effect unplayable outside of curated flicker shells. Pioneer is similarly cold on Spire Patrol — there are cleaner tempo options at this cost. Oathbreaker is the one fringe case where detain on a flying body can matter more, especially in Azorius shells trying to protect a planeswalker, but it still sits near the bottom of the options list.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Spire Patrol is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not card power. That price reflects the demand ceiling accurately and is unlikely to move without a dedicated flicker-detain archetype emerging somewhere it currently doesn't exist.
