Spined Sliver turns every blocked Sliver into a surprise damage pump, punishing opponents for chump-blocking your team. Two mana for a 2/2 that passively taxes every combat decision is a clean rate in any dedicated Sliver build.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Spined Sliver lives — Sliver tribal decks want every lord and combat modifier they can find, and the passive benefit stacks with other anthem effects to make even small Slivers dangerous to block. In Legacy and Vintage, Slivers have fringe tribal presence but faster, more consistent threats crowd out a 2/2 that only shines in combat. Modern Slivers exist as a budget aggro option, and Spined Sliver earns a slot there more plausibly than in eternal formats since the deck actually plans to attack through blockers. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander — tribal synergy makes it playable, but the format sees little Sliver representation.

Price Context
Current price
$0.43 bulk tier
At $0.43, Spined Sliver is bulk — it costs less than a sleeve and belongs in the same category as any generic tribal filler. The price reflects its narrow audience: outside a Sliver deck, there's no demand to push it higher.
