Spike Tiller turns any land into a 2/2 creature — permanently — by moving a +1/+1 counter off itself onto that land, and it enters with two counters to spend. The six-mana price tag is steep, but in decks that replenish counters or abuse land animation, the effect is genuinely backbreaking.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Commander is where Spike Tiller actually lives. Proliferate commanders like Atraxa, Praetors' Voice keep it stocked with counters indefinitely, and Simic-based land-matters builds treat the animate-a-land effect as a repeatable threat engine. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but purely unplayable — six mana for a fragile 2/2 factory doesn't compete with what those formats are doing on turns two and three. Modern has the same problem; the rate is far too slow for any serious shell. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home if the planeswalker and signature spell support a counters theme, but Spike Tiller is really a Commander card through and through.

Price Context
Current price
$0.29 bulk tier
At $0.29, Spike Tiller is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a commons-and-uncommons bin, not hunting it down. The price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander precon puts land-animation or Spikes back on the map.
